Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Complete Bar/Bat Mitzvah procedures and services

We congratulate you on the great joy of your son/daughter entering the world of Torah and mitzvot. May it be His will that just as you merit to bring them into mitzvot, so may you bring them to Torah, to the wedding canopy, and to good deeds together with your entire family - Amen.

Interested in Scheduling an Event?

Use our request form to get started. We'll get back to you promptly.

Requirements

Registration should be done no later than three months before the event date.

Registration

Register for the Torah aliyah on the synagogue website via the events calendar and contact the responsible person for final confirmation.

It's advisable to register no later than three months before the event date.

You can schedule a preliminary meeting with the Rabbi to understand the options available to you and to find and clarify the correct dates and days.

The event date is calculated according to the celebrant's Hebrew birthday and in proximity to it. Generally, it's customary for the boy to be called to the Torah on a weekday (Monday or Thursday when the Torah is read), when photography and tefillin laying are permitted, alongside the main event on Shabbat.

Note: The synagogue recommends and tries to ensure that only one Bar Mitzvah celebrant is called up each Shabbat. In exceptional cases, more than one celebration can be combined on the same day.

Prayer Times

On weekdays when there are Torah readings, Shacharit prayer begins at 6:05 AM.

On Shabbat, prayer begins at 7:30 AM (winter) / 8:00 AM (summer).

On Shabbat, guests can be told to arrive no later than 8:30 AM, when the Torah scroll is taken out.

Contact the person responsible for aliyot to provide names of candidates for Torah aliyah during the reading.

Refreshments and Payment

The synagogue purchases refreshments for the Kiddush after prayer according to the attached menu. The synagogue also arranges tables, tablecloths, and utensils.

Those wishing to upgrade the refreshments beyond the regular menu are asked to do so subject to the synagogue's kashrut guidelines.

Cleaning and organizing the synagogue at the end of the event is the responsibility of the celebrating family!

Payment to the synagogue will be 1,200 ₪ (to be paid before the event).

This payment includes refreshments for Kiddush, tablecloths, utensils, synagogue services, and an elegant gift and certificate for the celebrant.

(This amount does not include private preparation lessons.)

Learning and Preparation

The Torah aliyah requires learning the portion, blessings, etc. You can study with the Rabbi or any other teacher. In any case, if the young person will study with a teacher who is not a regular attendee of the synagogue, we ask that you arrange an introductory meeting and coordination with one of the synagogue committee members before the event.

We warmly recommend that in addition to private study for the Bar Mitzvah, the young person, together with their family, come to the synagogue several times, so that on the big day, everyone will feel more connected and relaxed.

Important Guidelines

PLEASE NOTE!!! For the honor of the synagogue, Shabbat, and the worshippers, we ask with all due respect that mobile phones and cameras not be brought into the synagogue on Shabbat. For events held on weekdays, photography is permitted (and even highly recommended).

Candy throwing will take place only once, at the end of the Bar Mitzvah celebrant's Torah reading.
